See & hear what EcoMerit Members have to say
In a word it has been brilliant.
Having the EcoMerit certification has allowed us to measure all of our environmental impact and adjust our business practices on a best efforts basis. We have implemented a number of changes, on small and larger scales, and seeing the actual impact over a year is quite eye opening and rewarding.
Our staff and traders have also begun to implement better practices on a personal level and in their homes, which is also great to see as every little bit helps. Many of our customers have also been very supportive.
On more than one occasion when tendering for new business, or quoting for an event, I know that our focus on minimising waste, compostable packaging and having the EcoMerit cert have been very positive influences on decisions.

“Dunamaise Arts Centre achieved EcoMerit environmental certification in 2010 and the resulting guidance and support has been invaluable for our sustainability journey. To date we have reduced our energy carbon footprint by a little more than half, and our water usage by two thirds. A major factor in our success story was EcoMerit’s ability to win several SEAI grants for us. We continue our journey with EcoMerit as our valued sustainability partner.“
Michelle de Forge, Director | Nick Anton, Technical Manager | Dunamaise Arts Cente
“EcoMerit has been a very valuable partner to Dundrum Town Centre since we first became certified in 2007. EcoMerit has acted as a stepping stone for us to obtain ISO14001. Phil has also been a huge help in applying for grant aid for recent LED projects. He guided us through all of the processes and provided us with any necessary documentation that we needed for the submission. We feel EcoMerit helped us determine some of our long and short term sustainability goals and gives us the opportunity to discuss these goals with an expert consultant. We have identified cost and consumption savings as well as projects that we can undertake in the future that will further enhance our environmental performance while reducing our impact.”
Debra Smith | Environment & Community Coordinator | Dundrum Town Centre
“Malone O’Regan Consulting Engineers has been involved with Phil and environmental certification since 2005. Throughout that time we have enjoyed annual savings across all our utilities and formalising our monitoring has enabled us to ensure that we are at all times working towards reducing our carbon footprint. Phil has been integral in helping us to get started and the procedures for setting up our system and policies couldn’t be simpler. We are proud to hang our certificate at reception, and in these challenging times we have noticed that having an environmental standard in place has helped improve our image with both our existing and potential clients.”

“EcoMerit has assisted us in beginning our journey to be more environmentally aware, enabling us to measure and focus on areas of the business that impact the environment through our annual energy use across all streams. By being certified, it allows us to demonstrate to our stakeholders our commitment to good energy management and gives us a good footing for ISO 14001, which we are currently pursuing.”
Noel Collins, IT & Projects Manager, Port of Waterford
“Phil and EcoMerit have provided us with the tools to analyse power resources, usage and waste streams, which helps us to plan and prioritise actions for improving the building performance. The Improvement Plan is a driver for change in the short and long term for Fexco.”
Mary McGillycuddy, Group Services Manager, FEXCO Unlimited

“Here at our Distilled SCH Wexford Office (DoneDeal, Daft.ie and Adverts.ie) we have been part of the EcoMerit scheme since 2015, which is when Phil Walker approached us about helping us to improve our carbon footprint, while also cutting our costs. I meet up with Phil once a year to go over what we’ve implemented, and what more we can do, and we have worked hard on becoming more sustainable, and we have most definitely identified cost-effective savings and improvement opportunities, which will benefit us for years to come. The process is simple, and the support received from Phil definitely opens up your eyes to where you can be more responsible, while also, making some serious savings. Each year we find something new that we can implement, but we also get to see how far we’ve come, as we can compare our YoY savings and usage of the likes of electricity, water or heating fuel, so this is very beneficial and helps us to keep focused on improving our environmental performance, which we are delighted to be a part of.”
Joanne Murphy, Office Manager Wexford & Waterford, Distilled SCH
“The EcoMerit scheme has been highly beneficial for Dun Laoghaire Marina in both monitoring and improving the environmental performance of our business policies.”
