EcoMerit Performance
The effectiveness of the EcoMerit programme is measured in three ways:
- The cost savings achieved in the first year of operation by the certified sites
- The year-on-year reduction in the energy carbon footprint of the certified sites
- The grant aid won for energy-saving improvements
at the certified sites
On average, each certified site achieves an initial annual cost saving of some €8,000 per year, with savings of up to €50k per annum for larger clients.
On average, EcoMerit certified sites achieve a 9.2% year-on-year reduction in energy carbon emissions, with typical savings of some 70 tonnes per site.
The graph above shows the emissions performance of a range of EcoMerit certified sites since joining the programme. The thick orange line shows the average year-on-year improvement achieved by the combined certified sites. The thick blue line provides an interesting contrast. This is the national performance of Ireland over a similar timescale.

To date, EcoMerit certified sites have also benefitted from over €1 million in SEAI grant aid on energy-saving capital projects. Success in winning these grants for our client base has of course contributed to the overall carbon emissions performance.
