EcoMerit Environmental Certification provides reassurance to your stakeholders that your business is operating in an environmentally responsible manner. The focus is on helping you improve your performance and reduce costs. The quality of the certification is assured through oversight by independent partners.
The EcoMerit process has 5 steps
How the Environmental Certfication process works
Complete the simple application form and send it to us. We will email your contract agreement to you. When you decide to proceed, we arrange a visit date, activating the agreement. You prepare by making available your recent energy, waste and water bills, ideally going back one year. If this is a problem, just pull together what you can.
The visit is very informal. It should be hosted by someone in your organisation who is familiar with your arrangements for energy, waste and water and the day-to-day running of the site. Your advisor will analyse your bills and then ‘walk and talk’ around the premises with you, looking for savings in energy, waste, water and cost. Typically the whole visit takes around half a day. It is not an audit or inspection.
After the visit, your advisor does any further investigation needed and emails your data pack, with the recommended improvements for you to consider. For each improvement, estimates are provided of the expected savings, implementation costs and pay-back times. The emphasis is on low cost improvements with fast pay-back times. You decide which improvements you will implement, and return the completed Data Pack. Typically, your Data Pack will amount to five short documents, all of which will have been provided in draft form by your advisor. Your advisor will also help as may be needed, either by phone, email or personal visit. The documents required for certification are kept to a minimum and include:
- A brief Environmental Policy, approved by senior management
- A short, action-oriented Environmental Improvement Plan
- Environmental Performance Monitoring Records, based on existing information
- A Compliance Record
Once the completed Data Pack is returned and approved by the EcoMerit Certification Manager, your certificate will be issued to you with a validity of five years. The certification is overseen by our independent and reputable strategic partners.
From year 2 to 5, an annual surveillance visit is conducted, to verify your certification, including assessing progress on your planned improvements, and assisting with finding further cost-saving improvements for the coming year.
You have the right to terminate your EcoMerit agreement at any time, without penalty. You may just advise us of your decision, return your EcoMerit certificate and pay any outstanding fees. It is our aim to ensure we provide such a good service that you will wish to stay with us rather than exercise this right.
