EcoMerit Performance
The effectiveness of the EcoMerit programme is measured in three ways:
- The cost savings achieved in the first year of operation by the certified sites
- The year-on-year reduction in the energy carbon footprint of the certified sites
- The grant aid won for energy-saving improvements
at the certified sites
On average, EcoMerit certified sites achieve a 9% year-on-year reduction in energy carbon emissions, with typical annual carbon savings of some 70 tonnes per site. That’s an emissions reduction of 60% over a 10 year period.
In addition to this extraordinary emissions result, average cost savings for each member has been over €10,000 in their first year of membership alone, with ongoing savings across the membership amounting to millions of euros over 10 years.
The performance graph shows the emissions performance of a range of EcoMerit certified sites since joining the programme. The thick orange line shows the average year-on-year improvement achieved by the combined certified sites. The thick blue line provides an interesting contrast. This is the national performance of Ireland over a similar timescale.

To date, EcoMerit certified sites have also benefitted from over €1.7 million in SEAI grant aid on energy-saving capital projects. Success in winning these grants for our client base has contributed to emmission reductions of thousands of tonnes of carbon.
